To fulfil her father’s dream of travelling, Ms Claire Huang gave up her job selling corporate gifts to fry carrot cake.
SINGAPORE – A new crop of hip hawkers is shaking up the scene, putting a fresh spin on familiar classics.
Think spicy mac and cheese with a generous dose of chilli padi from Mama’s Boy Bakes at Amoy Street Food Centre; fried carrot cake with bacon cubes from Carrot Cubes in Ang Mo Kio; and sambal prawn linguine from Shaker Lakers at Yishun Park Hawker Centre.
