The suspects were detained by counter-terror detectives and are being questioned at a police station in the West Midlands.

A man and a woman have been arrested in Dover on suspicion of terror offences relating to Syria, police have said.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said the pair were picked up on Saturday.

The arrests are not being linked to the London Bridge terror attack.

The force said: “A 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested in Dover.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorism offences and funding/supporting terrorism.

“The woman was arrested on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorism offences.

“The arrests were carried out by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detectives and the two are being questioned at a police station in the West Midlands.

“The arrests were intelligence-led; there was no risk to the public.

“The arrests are not linked in any way to the London Bridge terror attack and enquiries into this matter were under way prior to the incident on 29 November.”
